Your Million Dollar Marketing Plan Made Simple

There’s a better way to communicate with people about what you do than your title that will:

  • Make people pay attention
  • Start conversation
  • Get you more referrals
  • Increase leads for your business

In fact your title, doesn’t really tell me anything about the results you can deliver for me, in the role of your ideal client.

So what’s the solution?

Screw Your Title!!!

In this video we break down the best way to share your what you do with them while you are at networking events, when you are talking to ideal clients, and how to get people to know you get results for your clients.

Results are where it is at!!

[Tweet “Screw your title!! Ears will perk up and people are going to take interest when you use this strategy. @ambermccue”]

In case you want to read our tips for an alternative to titles, here’s the skinny in written format: So many people get caught up on what to call themselves…

I’ve got news for you… People care more about what you can do for them than what you call yourself.
Here’s a new way to look at what you call yourself and how to tell people what you do that will help you get in action and get past:

Am I a coach or a consultant?
Am I an online marketing maven or an online communications strategist?
Am I a boss or a CEO?

Instead of telling people what you do…

Tell them about someone you’ve helped and the results you got them.

Let’s put this in play for someone who might typically call themselves a “web designer”:

Hey – What do you do?
I’m a web designer.
Hmmm.  Okay, okay…

Yeah…. That’s engaging.  Or this:

Hey – What do you do?

Well, let me give you an example.  I had a client who was selling soap online.  She needed a site redesign and wanted to increase her web sales.  My kinda challenge! We did a complete makeover of her website – Fast forward a year later she’s quadrupled her online sales due to the amped up user experience and marketing strategies we implemented.  Exciting stuff!

Quadrupled her online sales… How in the world?  I want some of that!

Now you may not want to go into that deeper overview with the kids or someone who doesn’t give two hoots about what you do – But you want to use this results based strategy when it counts! Like at networking events, with connectors, and ideal clients.

Don’t let not having a “title” hold you back from moving ahead to serve the world today.

The world needs more of you in it!!!

Describe how you work and the results you get for people and you’ll see ears perk up!

Using this strategy to describe to people what you do is a better conversation starter and will more clearly articulate the results you get for your people.  And results matter!

You know what time it is?

Time to share in the comments: How will you describe yourself going forward?

Can’t wait to see what results you deliver for people!!

Talk soon!

  1. Tam I AM says:

Amber, I’m Tam and I help people eliminate the BS that holds them back from their happiness. Becky had BS (belief systems) that implicated her in thinking that life was unfair and intolerable. Through our work together Becky went from crying all the way to work every day to healing her 18 month long foot fracture and driving to work with a smile all in under two weeks time. I love culling and then eliminating the CRAP (conflict, resistance, anxiety & problems) from my clients to make them happier, healthier and wealthier.

    Sparkle on! Tam I Am

Love this, it makes so much sense. I’m going to start saying something along the lines of: I’m Victoria, and I help writers put the love and joy back in their writing process. I worked with one writer recently who’d been dancing around the edges of writing for years, never really settling into it because she was overwhelmed by the prospect of the learning curve and had no idea where to begin. A few weeks into our coaching sessions, she was working on her writing every day and enjoying it so much, she never wanted to stop!

Love it – i do this for business clarity and I never thought of translating it to what i do. So instead of saying that I am a sexologist/ sex educator… I can say I help parents to start talking with their kids about sex or that I help them to get comfortable with sex education. For me, this is a really nice way to not scare people off!

  4. Jessica says:

I love this idea! My “title” is an OBM, or Online Business Manager – but that doesn’t say ANYTHING about the work I do, which is so important to all of my clients. I am definitely going to use this approach from now on. Thanks, Amber!

  5. Janelle says:

I love to help people get out of their own way. I’m always tripping over my own tongue and know that if I can hand something out, make a visual to explain, make a website, it helps me to talk about things that matter (like how cute the newest flyer is) and everyone can sell themselves on the benefits of my services 😀

  6. Eleanore Strong says:

Thanks for this, Amber! Worrying about what you call yourself is just a distraction from more important things. I tell people this all the time… In fact, when I think about some of the people I admire most in the online space – even some of the most famous and successful names – I have no idea what title they use for themselves. It’s just not that important. What I remember is what they teach, what they believe, and how it has benefited me.
